Laser hair removal is a medical treatment that uses a pulsating beam of light to remove unsightly or unwanted hair. During treatment, the laser beam goes through the skin to the hair follicle. Because the intense heat of the laser disrupts the follicle, it is no longer able to grow.
People most commonly get laser hair removal treatments on the legs, underarms, chin, upper lip, and bikini line; but all parts of the body can be treated, except for the eyelids.
Depending on the treatment area and your goals for hair removal, you may need multiple treatments to achieve the desired result. Dr. Guram uses the LightSheer® DESIRE™ treatment by Lumenis®, one of the most innovative treatments for laser hair removal available today.
The hair in the treated area will fall out over the course of a month. It’s important to protect the treated area of the skin with sunscreen, as this can help prevent temporary pigmentation changes in the skin. Although rare, some patients — especially those with darker complexions — experience blisters. Additional side effects may include:
If you’re concerned about these side effects, consult with Dr. Guram. He’ll go over the possibilities and put you at ease about the treatment. Contact the Texas Health and Lifestyle Center today.
